Understanding the Signs

57 Million and counting. That is the number of prediabetics in the United States. Prediabetes means that your blood sugar level is higher than normal, but it’s not yet increased enough to be classified as type 2 diabetes. Still, without intervention, prediabetes is likely to become type 2 diabetes in 10 years or less. And, if you have prediabetes, the long-term damage of diabetes – especially to your heart and circulatory system – may be already starting.

Roughly 11 percent of people with prediabetes develop type 2 diabetes each year during the average 3 years of follow-up. The worst part is that people with prediabetes don’t often have symptoms. In fact, millions of people have diabetes but don’t know it because symptoms develop so gradually, people often don’t know it. In fact, of the 23.7 million people in the United States have diabetes, nearly a quarter remain undiagnosed.

Detection of diabetes at an early stage is important in order to control blood sugar levels and prevent complications associated with the disease, such as nerve damage, kidney disease, heart disease and vision complication. Isn’t it time to take control? So be optimistic! Prediabetes can be an opportunity for you to improve your health, because progression from prediabetes isn’t inevitable. With healthy lifestyle changes – such as eating healthy foods, including physical activity in your daily routine and maintaining a healthy weight – you may be able to bring your blood sugar back to normal. GlucoseShield® can help facilitate the process.
